After many strong performances, the Cats finished the regular season 13-3, winning the division and earning themselves a first-round playoff bye.
The Cats’ dominance this season is evident in the many games that WJ won by mercy rule, and the fact that WJ had the most players nominated to the MOCO 4A West Region 1 All-Division First Team. Seniors Jack Gilder, Grant Matalia, Spencer Gilcrest and Sam Weston all received this honor, while senior Jake Liffman was nominated to the All-Division Second Team.
In addition, senior Ethan Pletter was nominated as the division’s Player of the Year. Pletter led the division in batting average, connecting on over 60% of his at-bats and hitting two home runs. He was also second in the state in runs scored with 40.
The Cats began their playoff journey on May 9th against B-CC, where they defeated the Barons for the second time this season, advancing to the regional finals, where they will face the Whitman Vikings at home on May 12th. In their previous meeting, the Vikings beat WJ in a close 5-4 game, but the Cats will hope to defeat the Vikings this time around and become regional champions once again.
