Walter Johnson Athletic Director Larry Hurd is officially retiring from his role starting Oct. 1, he announced Tuesday afternoon.

Hurd has served as the Athletic Director at WJ since fall of 2023. Prior to becoming athletic director at WJ, Hurd was the school’s head varsity football coach since 2018, often being credited for his efforts to uplift the program.

He announced his resignation in an email to the WJ Community on Tuesday afternoon, thanking students, parents and coaches for their support during the past three years.

“Walter Johnson holds a truly special place in my heart,” Hurd said in his message to the WJ Community. “I believe that, together, we have elevated this entire program. Whether through campus branding or the privilege of hiring elite coaches, I am most proud of the relationships built with our students.”
