Up at bat: What are your thoughts on changing teachers during semester class changes?
-
“Honestly, at this point I’m sort of indiferrent to it becase I’ve been doing it for so long, when I was in school I had the same teacher all year and I think there’s value in that because you get to know the rhythms, routines and such, but I’ve been teaching so long with the system as it is, I’ve just kind of gotten used to it.” – English teacher Joshua Fullenkamp.

“I like it, I like the change… it feels new, it makes the school year not boring, it’s nice. I enjoy it but like I can see why people don’t like it.” – Riley Birdsong 9.

“I understand it because I think we need to give students oppportunities to meet new teachers, and also I think to a certain extent its more equitable because your being judged, or graded, among a variety of different standards… but also I really miss my first semester students, I feel like we built really strong relationships and also to a certain extent I feel like we were just getting to the point where everyone was really comfortable with their table or with their class and so there was more like sharing-learning going on, but I get it and I’m excited to meet new students.”- NSL and World teacher Samantha Meyer.

“I think it’s nice when you have the same teachers, I like it better when you have the same teachers the next semester, but I think it’s also new to get a change of scenery and a new way of teaching.” – Francesca Weigand 11.

“I don’t really like changing teachers because I feel it takes about a quarter and a half to get used to the teachers that you start the year with, and then by the time you get used to how they grade, kind of how to do your assignments to please them, then you change teachers and you have to relearn that whole process all over again, and it just takes you out of your rhythm.” – Olivia Bonevich 12.
