With winter sports now in full swing, the girls’ basketball team has tipped off their season with a four game win streak after defeating Rockville, Albert Einstein, Richard Montgomery and Magruder in high scoring games.
The team’s most recent victory was at Magruder on Monday, Dec. 15. The Cats dominated the Colonels 50-29, with the entire team joining in on the spoils. Hoping to keep this momentum going for as long as possible, they’re looking at the positives and excited for what’s to come.
“This season, I have a really good feeling about our team,” senior captain Norah Youssef said. “Our team chemistry is great and it’s honestly a really good group of girls that have been very focused and determined.”
Previously, on Friday, Dec. 12, the team used their home court advantage against RM to get the first points on the board. The Rockets struck back not long after and continued to do so as the Cats were hungry for more points. This kept the Wildcats on their toes, forcing them to maintain their momentum and steady lead. With shots from Youssef, senior Elizabeth Martin and sophomore Ali Gandalfo, the game went all the way to the final buzzer, with the Cats narrowly coming out on top 56-55.
“We are doing good working together as a team, and we have great energy, which is how we started and finished the RM game,” junior Gabby Buggs said.
Players like juniors Brooke Brush, Buggs and Ameilia Soccio have excelled this season, scoring from all angles. As a team, the Cats kept the pressure and intensity high on the Rams and the Titans, earning them 61-23 and 61-37 wins against Rockville and Einstein respectively.
“Being 4-0 definitely makes us feel really excited going forward, and really pushes us more to be the best we can be through the rest of the season,” senior Lucy Sher said.
The girls faced Wootton on Wednesday, Dec. 17, securing a huge 48-45 win. Next up the Cats will face a tough Churchill in at home where the girls will hope to continue what they have started, looking for more victories as they go on with their season.
