The cheer team wrapped up their season, placing 9th out of 16 teams. Only the top eight teams advanced to states, and the team missed the cutoff by just half a point in an incredibly close finish.
Though they fell just short of qualifying for states, the team’s energy, teamwork, and resilience throughout the season stood out. From long practices to cheering on the sidelines during games and competitions, every routine demonstrated how much the athletes had grown and improved together.
“We improved so much this year,” senior Sofia Jalil said. “Every practice brought us closer as a team, and that definitely made a huge difference. We performed so well, and that was definitely shown at regionals and playoffs. Sadly, we didn’t make the cut, but I’m so proud of the team overall.”
The Wildcats’ routine at regionals showcased their dedication and spirit, earning praise from spectators and coaches alike. Many on the team said the experience motivated them to keep pushing forward and set even higher goals for next year.
“Placing top 3 [at counties] felt amazing because it proved that all of our hard work and long practices were worth it,” senior Shoshana Berger said. “Competing for one last time with this team was emotional because everyone cared so much, but I am confident that the passion will carry through to the team next year.”
As the season comes to an end, the team isn’t going to let that half-point define them. From tryouts to regionals, their unity and determination carried them through to have a successful season.
“Starting from tryouts in August, we worked really hard and put in numerous hours into our cheer routine,” senior Renata Andrian said. “Since many really good seniors left, we were really nervous at the beginning of the season. However, even after many injuries, we were still able to place third at regionals, and we felt really proud.”
As the team reflects on the season, many athletes say the progress they made is something they will carry with them long after regionals. The strong finish at regionals showed not only their skill but also the dedication that went into every routine.
“I felt sad for next year’s season because I wouldn’t be able to compete with the same people,” freshman Eva Gould said. “But I’m excited to see how we will do at regionals next year as a whole new team because most people are seniors.”
Looking ahead, the Wildcats are eager to build on their accomplishments. Younger athletes are already stepping up, inspired by the seniors who led the way, and the team hopes to return even stronger next fall.
