In less than two years, Taylor Swift has performed 149 shows spanning over five continents: North America, Asia, Europe, South America and Australia. Swift kicked off her Era’s Tour in North America in Glendale, Arizona on March 17, 2023, and ended it in Vancouver, Canada on Dec. 8. She initially performed songs from all 10 of her albums and added her latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ in the European leg of the tour, beginning in Paris. Fans were treated to over three hours of performance and singing, and even surprise guests like Sabrina Carpenter and Gracie Abrams.
Swift is not just America’s top artist but also one of the top performers. Her shows can be seen as a form of art, as she is one of the few artists that doesn’t just perform music but entertains audiences. Swift has a cult following, as many ‘Swifties’ have attended multiple shows traveling all over the world to see them and most fans dressed up in outfits representing all of her albums. In her song “You’re On Your Own Kid” from her 10th studio album, ‘Midnights’ the song mentions a line about making friendship bracelets, “So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it” which is where her fans got the inspiration to make and trade friendship bracelets with other fans during concerts becoming a tradition among the Swiftie nation. From A-list celebrities like Serena Williams, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds to special guest musicians, fans never knew who they would see at her shows.
“The tour has been going on for a very long time and she obviously deserves a break,” sophomore Ellie Macfarlan said. “It’s a lot of work. It’s sad but it’s kind of a good thing I guess. I honestly don’t think I can choose a favorite song, literally any song from Folklore or Evermore.”
Senior Jackie Fuller attended two of Swift’s shows night one in Philadelphia and Miami night two. She wasn’t happy that Swift wasn’t ending her tour in the U.S.A more specifically not performing in D.C.
“I was really sad about her ending her tour in December, I was really hoping she would come to D.C. and not end in Canada,” senior Jackie Fuller said. “I went to her tour in Philadelphia night one and Miami night two. My best experience from seeing those concerts was seeing the “Tortured Poets Department” setlist in Miami was so cool and the surprise songs. My favorite song is “This is me trying”.
Junior Grace Keehn had quite the surprise when she found out that Swift was ending her tour in December. She went to Swift’s concert in New Jersey at Metlife stadium and she said that it was her favorite concert she’s ever been to.
“It’s really sad but I’m excited to see what she does next,” junior Grace Keehn said.” “I found out about her ending her tour either on social media or through a group chat with my friends. I had so much fun at the concert, it’s my favorite concert I’ve ever been to. I went to a concert in New Jersey at Metlife Stadium. My favorite songs from the tour are “Tis the Damn Season” and “Enchanted.”
