International night is a long standing WJ tradition that is dear to many students. Hosted on the last day of school for seniors, it is often a farewell for the graduating class. The event takes place in the cafeteria, where different cultural clubs showcase their food, cultural displays and some even include activities. The event will take place this evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
After the displays, performances will take place in the auditorium. Both clubs such as WJ dance team, WJ Raaga (Bollywood Dance team), Passion Latina, KPRO, Step team and other students not affiliated with organized groups are able to perform.
WJ dance teams spent months preparing for the event.
“We started [rehearsing] after we finished our Asian assembly performance, which was back in January,” sophomore Arpita Vijay of WJ Raaga said. “We’ve been meeting since February. Every week we have two practices, and we took a break, during the AP weeks and stuff because everyone had APs.”
Last year the event was hosted by sophomore Melissa Reverdy and her sister Maïwen Reverdy. This year, there’s a lot more help in the planning and execution of the event. The French Honors Society who are hosting the event are hoping to bring representation for not only the world, but for the French society as well.
“I want to do it because I feel like the French society is not only about the French country, but it’s for [all] French countries,” Reverdy said. “Doing it at international night, it’s just a mixture of a lot of cultures. So the French, Belgium, Lebanese, are doing [it] this year, and I feel like it’s great, so we can all have all countries to look for one another,”
Since the event is hosted on the last day of school for seniors, many seniors are part of the process in supporting the planning of the international night, with senior participation higher than last year.
“I love how unique each year is because it’s totally different,” senior Julieta Guiza Enciso said. “A bunch of people, a lot of seniors are participating since it’s their last one. And new freshmen and sophomores, [because] it’s their first time participating, so it’s different [each year].”
