Teams throughout the DMV competed in the Montgomery Invitational with some of the top runners in the county. The Montgomery Invitational is an event that was cancelled last year, but one that helps to raise funds for the indoor track season. The invite celebrated its 22nd year of existence, having been created by former WJ track coach Thomas Martin and has been WJ-run ever since.
Senior Jasper Goldstein excelled in the 2-mile, where he ran a 10:19.31, a personal record in the event.
“It was really exciting to finally beat my personal record, especially at such a competitive event,” Goldstein said.
On the girls side, senior Megan Raue finished second of 12 invited runners, for the mile event. Running a 5:12.23 in the 1600m.
For the rest of the team, this 8-hour event was less fulfilling for the numerous team events WJ participated in.
“It was a big meet and individually everyone performed great but certain team aspects led to some disappointment,” junior Alessandro Marenco said.
Looking on, the main focus for the following week is prepping for counties Wednesday, Jan. 22, a major event where the team hopes to present their skills and beat previous times.
“We are doing everything we can to prepare for counties,” senior Brady Chan said. “We are all excited to compete.”
