In my four years of high school, many things have changed, but one thing has always stayed consistent, Growth.
I remember my very first week of high school, navigating the completely new environment, not knowing what the next four years would hold. It all felt so new, and very exciting. But at the same time, it was very nervewrecking. But if I could’ve gotten a glimpse of what I have grown into, all my nerves would have been out the window in an instant. But to get where I landed during my time in high school, so much more goes on underneath the surface.
As the years ticked off, things changed. Some for the better and some not so much, but with the right people and mindset, you can take these curveballs and use them to your advantage to benefit you and your personal growth, taking what you discover in this short period of time into the rest of your life.
The best thing that you can do for this is a skill that I have mastered pretty well, especially this year, is being in the present. Senior year is the year of all the lasts. Last first day, school events, dances and weekend hangouts with your hometown friends and so much more of your daily routine coming to an end.
With this, it’s much easier to allow change to grow with you positively, taking new chances and lessons along the way. But it’s not a solo task, as I said earlier, the right people can really affect your years here. Without my friends that I’ve made along the way, my time would’ve been much harder here. Thankfully, I’ll be able to walk the stage with the same people I have had supporting me since freshman year. But of course, in four years, nothing is bound to always stay the same, so new faces have come in recent years too.
But all my friends, either old or new, have been some of the best people I’ve ever met. The people who gave me the best laughs, hugs, and even tears. They’ve helped me come so far, and with their strength it gives me the confidence I need to dip my toes into new waters once again.
To close this reflection, just know one thing: going into the next chapter of your life may seem scary, but with the right guidance and growth, you can easily be headed in the right direction.
