“Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination.” So said Mark Twain in The Mysterious Stranger. Despite only spending three years at WJ, I am glad to have been able to have read Twain and many other great authors who I have been able to learn from. However in these 3 years I have learned about something far more delectable; as I’m sure you know, the neighboring Giant has a $5 Cookie Bucket.
I would like to thank my friends, teachers and family who supported me throughout high school. I could very well fill this reflection thanking them, but it would be a meaningless gesture because of the existence of the Cookie Bucket, which, unlike my friends, teachers and family, can be replaced if eaten.
A piece of advice to underclassmen: only purchase the Cookie Bucket at the WJ Giant. I had some cookies in preparation for watching Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, with a friend. However, they were from some worthless Giant, far from the sweet embrace of WJ and thus their cookies were callused and brittle.
As scarring as the experience was, it made me realize something. The cookies at the WJ Giant are always fresh due to the mass consumption by students, as more must constantly be baked. In fact I feel confident in saying that you have had a cookie from a Cookie Bucket, whether you bought them or otherwise. It is an experience, a rite of passage, that is shared so widely throughout WJ that spirit week pales in comparison.
With Woodward reopening it’s only fair to return them their mascot, the Wildcat. While the Mad Cow would make a fine, if not fabulous replacement, the Cookie Bucket is clearly superior. Sure the Mad Cow reflects our past, but what about the Cookie Bucket? Think of it, prancing around sports games. I’m sure Giant would be willing to sponsor it. Perhaps we could put such money towards fixing our moldy art wing or constantly failing copy machines?
Soon I will graduate, taking a final day to wander around WJ. I cannot complain about our school, it is perfect. My fellow students, staff, and admin work in tandem to keep this building running without any hitches and probably safe. Unrelated chocolate cookies can serve as rat poison. Looking towards college I feel happy, and I have WJ to thank for that.
