These are a collection of reviews of WJ’s One Acts Plays – four short plays directed and enacted by students. The plays were performed Thurday, Jan. 7, Friday, Jan. 8, and Saturday, Jan. 9.
The play “Hope Springs Eternal,” written by W. Colin McKay and directed by junior Robindra Banerji, follows the encounter of a suicide-bent woman (junior Becka Lubbert) who is stopped from jumping off a bridge by an ex-psychology professor (junior Josh Lefkow) in order to fulfill his goal of saving someone.
While the play started off at a slow pace, both Lubbert’s and Lefkow’s performance and interactions make the tension and suspense believable in this drama. Lefkow’s portrayal of a washed-up professor is complimented well by Lubbert’s ability to capture her character’s apprehension throughout the play.
As the only drama of the night, the play seemed to slow down the mood of the crowd, but the acting made up for an otherwise slow and tedious plot.
