Homecoming is right around the corner, and finding the perfect dress is on many students’ to-do lists this fall. While it seems like a daunting task, some students have mastered the art of finding their ideal dress.
When starting this process, everyone has a different approach. Some people start by visiting nearby stores and looking at dresses with a variety of different styles and colors. While others start by scrolling through the websites of their favorite stores to look for some inspiration. There’s also the option of finding the perfect dress while thrifting or borrowing one from a friend.
“I start by searching up the color that I want and then looking at what pops up on Google,” junior Maya Giambone said.
As Homecoming gets closer, dresses start to sell out. It can be frustrating to discover that a dress is sold out in a certain size or color. Which is why many students decide to start searching for their dress early on in the school year.
“I start looking around when the second week of school starts because I don’t know what dresses are going to be in stock,” sophomore Hailey Robinson said. “I want to make sure I can get them on time, and if they don’t fit, I can still return them.”
A few things to consider when evaluating a dress are the style, fit, color, price and comfort. It’s not easy to find all of these qualities in one dress, no matter how hard one may try. So, students will choose what matters the most to them.
“I think the style matters more because of your body shape,” senior Tolu Adegoke said. “The color could complement your skin, but if the style looks bad, then it’s not going to look very cute.”
Everybody has a different preference for what style of dress they want to wear. Many people like a shorter, form-fitting dress, while others like a longer dress. Some people prefer glitter on a dress, and others prefer a simple and plain color or pattern.
“I’m probably going to wear a shorter, navy blue dress,” freshman Elise Gins said.
Feeling confident and comfortable in a dress is important; having a fun time is what should be focused on when homecoming arrives, not on things like appearance.
No matter what grade or how many times people have attended Homecoming, it can still be difficult to know which stores to look at. It is typically helpful to ask friends or classmates where they are looking for dresses. Some examples of stores are Edikted, Revolve, Lulus, Loveshack Fancy and Macy’s. These stores are popular because of the style of dresses they offer and the variety of colors they have.
“I look online at stores like Lucy in the Sky or Princess Polly,” Robinson said. “Also, Windsor is really good, especially because it’s at the mall.”
Many students feel that it’s a big relief when a dress is finally chosen. Then, they have time to focus their energy on plans for having a great homecoming weekend.
