With the school year coming to an end, freshmen reflect on their first year of high school, sharing their thoughts and feelings about the past school year in regards to the academic and social aspects of their high school experience so far.
“My freshman year was great, [I took] AP gov this year and it was really hard, but I think it was worth it, socially it was a 10/10 with meeting so many new people,” freshman Lihi Sabba said.
With the workload of freshmen getting used to increased rigor in classes, they have to adapt and fix their studying habits to make sure that they are ready for the harder classes that they will take through high school.
“[This year] could have gone better with time management skills, and the courses that I took this year really helped me prepare for the harder classes that I am taking next year,” freshman Anastasia Fitenko said.
Getting to experience social events that come with being in high school was also a highlight for freshmen as well.
“I really enjoyed the football games and just meeting all these new people in general and making so many new friends,” Fitenko said.
A common sentiment among most freshmen is the new connections and friends they have made over the school year.
“Everyone was super nice and I loved getting to know new people and staying close with new friends as well,” freshman Lucy Jones said.
Getting to know new people and making new friends, along with all the social events made many freshmen’s first year of highschool better in comparison to their middle school years. Although the course load was more intense, many freshman still this year was step up from middle school.
“My freshman year was surprisingly good and a lot better than my middle school years. I became a lot more social and started talking to so many other people. Even though academically it was a bit harder than my middle school years, all you need is time management, and even though I am scared for the harder classes that I am taking next year, I am ready for my sophomore year,” freshman Rodase Dessalegn said.
For most freshmen, middle school was significantly easier than high school.High school proved to be a big step up from middle school and many freshmen took a while to adjust.
“Academically it was a really big change going from middle school to high school but I am still so ready for next year,” freshman Adya Naveed said.
Even though the jump was big going from middle to high school. The freshman felt prepared to take on the rigor of the next school year, and while socially it had its ups and downs as well, the common consensus was that it was a strong year.
“While the academic load was a lot more than expected, I am so ready for next year. And socially it was really fun but it did have its ups and downs,” freshman Vanessa Galdamez said.
