WJ students active in the DC music scene

WJ senior Thomas Scanlon and Jackson Reed senior Lucas Dimou perform Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heavens Door”. The two became friends through local D.C. shows.

Senior Thomas Scanlon and freshman Meyer Gordon of WJ band Tiny Room play together outside of Cafe Au Lait. The Cafe has hosted numerous local bands for free in an effort to support the community. “Being able to play at places and experience such a close-knit group has been life-changing,” Gordon said.

WJ senior Idan Tzioni plays drums for WJ band Submerge the Oppressor. The self-described “progressive metalcore band” formed back in 2023 with all WJ students.

Duke Ellington sophomore Claire Marquez sings “I love you so” by The Walters. She is a part of a local band Unknown Artist, which she joined in the summer of 2023.

WJ band Submerge the Oppressor sings for a crowd at Fort Reno Park in DC. The show was held on May 24, with free admission to all.
