Class of 2024 celebrates graduation at UMBC

As the year is coming to an end, seniors get to experience a major event in their life, graduation. Hugo Conquet interviews seniors to learn about their plans after highschool, and their overall feeling about graduation.

  • Senior class president Erin Kim, accompanied by vice president Sophia Hurwitz, secretary Adam Dincin, treasurer Reagan McGuire and winner of the Charles Rideout Award for Academic Excellence award Emily Mu wait on stage preparing their speeches.

  • As the ceremony started, honorary guests lined up to get on stage while students made their way down the line to sit alphabetically in their designated chairs.

  • Former principal and ceremony commencement speaker Jennifer Baker gives seniors one last life lesson as Mama Wildcat.

  • Emily Mu, winner of the Charles Rideout Award for Academic Excellence gives her speech about her high school experience as well as her academic journey.

  • After the opening speech, seniors involved in choir were brought to the front to sing one last song together.

  • Sarah Elster, ready to graduate, wears her decorated cap representing the University of Virginia which she will be attending in the fall.

  • Sidney Scale celebrates his graduation and expresses his gratitude towards Principal Nicole Morgan by going in for a hug.

  • Waqif Waziri shakes hands with honorary guests after getting handed his diploma he had been very excited to receive.

  • The last line of students finally makes their way down the line, shaking the guest’s hands after receiving their diplomas.

  • As the ceremony comes to a close, seniors can finally turn their tassels and finally be considered WJ graduates of the class of 2024.

  • Graduates are finally able to throw their caps and turn the page on this chapter of their lives. They are officially graduates of the Walter Johnson High School class of 2024.
