Decade-long rumors and tension has all led up to the official trailer for “Grand Theft Auto VI,” which was posted Dec. 4. The trailer reached 100 million views in just a day on YouTube and is still trending on social media and video sharing websites. The absence of official announcements on “GTA VI” has been a long-lasting joke, and though a trailer has been made, it looks like the game won’t be arriving anytime in the new year.
“The game is amazing, it looks like real life. Almost virtual reality. I’m super excited for it,” junior Gideon Gotiangco said.
Released just over 10 years ago, “Grand Theft Auto V” is one of the most popular games of all time and second in sales only to “Minecraft.” High schoolers now were still in elementary school, but the impact the game has had lasts to this day. Even though it was made over a decade ago, the large open-world map and crime has kept younger players entranced with the Los Angeles based city of Los Santos and its legendary characters.
“[Grand Theft Auto V] is one of the most revolutionary games of all time, and it contains many aspects other games don’t,” sophomore Grant Levens said.
The extremely long gap between the fifth and sixth versions in the “Grand Theft Auto” series adds to the suspense of it all. Theories about where the map will take place and how large it will be have been the primary questions. The main characters, Lucia and Jason, have been introduced, with Lucia being the first female protagonist in the series.
“The new map takes place in Florida, which will be interesting and funny. The graphics also look really good,” junior Oksana Vorobiova said.
It seems from the trailer that Miami and the Everglades will be the main locations of the new game, renamed as “Vice City” and “Vice Dale County.” The fictional “Vice City” has appeared in other “Grand Theft Auto” games and is a take on Miami, Florida. Crude characters can be expected, with many real life Florida moments being parodied in the trailer.
“Even though the release date is for 2025 and it hasn’t come out, it’s already one of my favorite games,” Levens said.
