Due to the immense positive feedback given to the Netflix original Wednesday, S*T*A*G*E announced that they will perform “The Addams Family” for the upcoming spring musical. The musical is set to open on Apr. 14.
On Dec. 12, the musical was decided and announced the next morning to the school community. They held an interest meeting in the auditorium one week later.
Artistic director Colleen McAdory confirmed the dates that the auditions will take place on during the interest meeting.
“We start on the 9th of January and have two days of vocal auditions and then a day of dance. Then, we will start callbacks,” McAdory said.
McAdory realizes how popular Wednesday has become, so she expects the roles to be competitive, especially since the cast of characters is a lot more limited than “The Twilight Zone,” which was the winter show. Despite this, she has no doubt that it will drive the cast and crew to work efficiently.
“I think it’s going to be a really fantastic show based on students’ excitement for it. Both cast and crew are not only very talented, but also work really well together and I anticipate that it will draw a large crowd. The students are working hard to make it an amazing show,” McAdory said.
Students like freshman Sadie Steenberge, who is aiming for a role in cast, are also excited for the production.
“I really love the choice of musical, especially because so many of the songs are great. I think whoever gets into the cast will do amazing,” Steenberge said.
Since the hit show Wednesday has grown to impressive heights, it became the driving factor in the decision for the spring musical.
“Wednesday is an awesome show to watch. It has horror and mystery and the acting is great. It’s a great choice of a musical to recreate and I can’t wait to watch it,” sophomore Cate Liu said.
