A student at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, Md. shot and injured two students before he was shot and fatally wounded by a school resource officer early Tuesday morning, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
As of publication, both students injured by the shooter are being treated at nearby hospitals.
“Students are being evacuated from GMHS and being bused to the reunification center at the Leonardtown HS campus. The building is orderly and the Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation,” Great Mills High School said in a statement on their website.
The school will hold a press conference at Chancellor’s Run Regional Park at 1 p.m.. today to discuss the incident.
The identities of the shooter and the victims have not been revealed aside from the fact that one of the victims is a 16-year-old girl and the other a 14-year-old boy. Since the nature of the relationship between the shooter and his victims is still confidential, it is unclear what his motives were.
