Obama aides create controversial website

All across the country, the results of the 2016 presidential election served as a wakeup call for millions, and for members of Barack Obama’s staff, Trump’s upcoming inauguration meant no different. Head speechwriter Jon Favreau, presidential speechwriter Jon Lovett and national security spokesman Tommy Vietor are coming together to create a new website called Get Crooked Media.

 

The site will include an active podcast dubbed “Pod Save America,” analytical articles and general commentary on the world of politics. The group’s mission statement describes their goals for their site: “We promise a no bulls–t conversation about politics where you can laugh, cry, scream, ridicule us daily, share your ideas, and hopefully decide that you want to help fix this mess too.”

Before deciding to take the leap and create their own website, the three friends had come together to host a podcast called “Keepin it 1600,” produced by Bill Simmons’ new site, The Ringer. While this podcast in particular was critically acclaimed and spent weeks atop the iunes download charts, the Crooked Media founders felt in the wake of Trump’s victory it just was not enough.

 

When Trump won, we felt the other jobs we had were no longer sufficient. We needed to get back in the game,” Vietor said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a lot at stake right now and, certainly with Trump in office, there’s a lot in danger.”

The site gives a clear disclaimer that it is not produced by journalists, letting its purpose remain clear.

 

“We’re not journalists, we’re not unbiased, we’re not always serious and we’re certainly not always right,” the site’s newly released mission statement explains.
So far in its short lifespan the site has received rave reviews from Democrats all across  the nation and garnered great deals of attention. Besides receiving extensive media coverage, the site’s “Pod Save America” is currently the most downloaded podcast in the world and has averaged 5 stars in reviews from listeners.
