The aroma of freshly popped buttered popcorn and the thick feeling of anticipation fill the air as the seconds tick by before a movie is about to start. The previews drag on until the lights finally dim, the buzz of conversation in the theater abruptly quiets and the movie begins to play on the bright widescreen. The excitement of seeing a movie is especially heightened when there is a new movie that has been hyped and anticipated for a very long time.
The new year brings a new start and a blank slate, but it also brings in anticipated new movies whose premiere dates are sprinkled throughout 2017. Many of these movies are sequels or continuations of previous box office hits, like Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Two thousand seventeen will definitely be a huge year for the movie industry and cinemas alike.
Sophomore Jessica Silverman is the most excited for the premiere of Beauty and the Beast in 2017 because she’s can’t wait to see Emma Watson’s portrayal of Belle.
“[My favorite new movie is] Beauty and the Beast because I love Emma Watson and she’s awesome, she’s gonna be great for the part and I’m just really excited to see what they do with the Beast and…Cogsworth,” Silverman said.
A long overdue revival of this popular Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, has been generating a lot of buzz due to its famous cast and elusive, compelling trailers. This movie is a live-action version of the original Disney film, premiering on March 17, 26 years after the original Disney movie premiered in 1991. Emma Watson plays Belle, the princess who many young girls aspire to be someday. In the trailer, she is wearing the iconic yellow gown that has been a staple of Princess Belle since the original movie was released.
Many other highly-anticipated Disney movies are being released this year, such as Cars 3, Thor: Ragnarok, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.
Cosmopolitan Magazine says that all of the beloved characters from the original film Guardians of the Galaxy are returning in the highly anticipated sequel.
According to Cosmopolitan, the sequel to the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. The film is due in cinemas on April 28.
Sophomore Noah Katcher is more interested in the action movies premiering in 2017, especially The Fate of the Furious, which is the eighth installation in the Fast and Furious franchise.
The Fate of the Furious comes out on April 14 and it is expected to do very well in theaters after the massive success of the previous movies in the franchise. Many cast members are returning to reprise their roles, such as Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriquez. Katcher expects this film to be better than the previous Fast and Furious movies because of the new plot illustrated in the movie’s trailer.
“I think [The Fate of the Furious] will be better because it has new conflicts and seems to have more action than the previous films,” Katcher said.
The Fate of the Furious, among other many other popular movies such as Beauty and the Beast and Thor: Ragnarok, will ensure that this year is jam packed with exciting blockbuster movies premiering almost every month of the year. 2017 definitely has a lot in store for movie fans everywhere.
