On Sept. 3, actor Michael Clarke Duncan was pronounced dead after being hospitalized for one month and 21 days after suffering from a heart attack on July 13. He died at age 54.
Duncan was originally a bodyguard before entering the world of Hollywood and was typecast due to his large build. He was known for the 2000 film “The Whole Nine Yards,” costarring with Bruce Willis (“The Sixth Sense”) and Matthew Perry (“Fools Rush In”) as none other than a bodyguard. Regardless, the movie was a big hit and definitely contributed to his star power.
In this film, Duncan’s character, Frankie Figs, was enlisted to coerce Matthew Perry’s character, Oz, into helping to protect his boss, Bruce Willis, from the mob who was coming after him.
After this role, Hollywood knew who to call when it came to any bodyguard role. Duncan’s typical role of being a bodyguard was great, yes, but it made his career seemed a bit too repetitive. Now they must orchestrate a complete casting call to find who they are truly looking for.
Duncan’s death was quite a long process, as it took more than a couple of nights to move through the process from his heart attack. This process was prolonged due to his underlying heart trouble that suddenly worsened from this attack.
Duncan’s friends and fans participated in a public memorial on Sunday, Sept. 9.
