WJ has always held a tense rivalry with B-CC. Administration has now decided that the risk of fights makes holding games between the schools untenable.
With the struggle of being a perpetually less cool school than their rival, it’s understandable that B-CC students get angry at games with WJ. However, earlier this year, B-CC students engaged in an over the top attack on the WJ bus.
“Of course, we won the football game. But, it was wild that they attacked our bus. It was so unnecessary,” senior football player Pablo Foley said.
Of course, there is a major loss with the removal of these games. Students at WJ love to pack the stands as they watch the Wildcats win. The cheers are loud and the joy is real.
“I’m always so happy going to any game, especially those against B-CC. We’ve lost something big now that these games were banned,” senior Ethan Mendes said.
For the underclassmen, the games provided an insight into the depth of spirit at WJ.
“Going to the B-CC football game this year made me happy as a clam. It was super fun,” sophomore Henry Healey said.
While the games are now banned, WJ students can still take pride in past victories. It’s certainly unfortunate that the games are banned, but we all know B-CC’s losing to WJ whether they’re playing on the field or not.
“We know WJ. We know that we’re winning. No ban changes that,” Mendes said.
