After game five of the division series, many fans questioned if Dusty Baker would come back next year. His postseason record has been abysmal, losing elimination games every single time since the Steve Bartman game back in 2003. With the Reds, he got swept by the Phillies in 2011 and went up 2-0 on the Giants in 2012, and still lost three in a row.  With the Nationals, he lost games four and five in 2016 and crashed and burned in 2017.

The reason fans point to in this year’s game five was bringing in ace pitcher Max Scherzer in relief on two days rest when they had pitchers Tanner Roark and Enny Romero unused in the bullpen. Also, some fans think that playing Jayson Werth in left field every game instead of using outfielders Adam Lind and Howie Kendrick to switch the lineup up a bit was a big mistake.

Rumored managerial candidates are John Farrell, who managed the Red Sox and won a World Series with them in 2013, former Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who took the Yankees to the NLCS this year and won the World Series with them in 2009, Dave Martinez, Cubs bench coach, who was a former Expos player in the 90s, and Brad Ausmus, who managed the Tigers for three years. There may be more managerial candidates as Pirates manager Clint Hurdle’s contract is up and Marlins manager Don Mattingly is rumored to be fired as well.
