The golf team had a succesful day on Oct. 4, competing in the MCPS Coed District Tournament at Poolesville Golf Course. Playing against teams from all over the county, WJ finished fifth overall out of 25 teams.
Standouts in the tournament include senior James Lillie, who finished fourth overall with a score of 76, and sophomore Evan Shapiro, who finished tied for 15th with a score of 80.
“We golfed really well [and] we almost won it.” said Shapiro.Because of their success at the tournament, Lillie, Shapiro and senior Oliver Vickery qualified for the Montgomery County Invitational Tournament which took place on Oct. 15. At the tournament, Shapiro lead WJ, shooting an 82 while Lillie shot an 83. Lillie and Shapiro also earned spots in the State Championships.
“All three players have contributed greatly in our six [division] golf matches where the team finished sixth,” said coach Richard Payne.
