The boys’ soccer team hasn’t had the start they were hoping for. They have started the season 3-4 with a few very close losses. In their second game of the season, they played Damascus, losing 1-0 in a nail-biting overtime match.
The team traveled all the way to Delaware to take on the the Salesianum School in Wilmington. They lost this match 2-0.They also lost to Bel Air, their former state championship opponent, 1-0 in another close game at home.
Though the team has not had the start they wanted, they believe they have learned some valuable lessons that can help them turn the slow start around.
“We have become more focused on the team as a whole, as opposed to the individual skills of players,” senior forward Max Yodice said. “We have emphasized the importance of working hard in practice which will result into playing well in games.”
The guys have changed their mentality since the beginning of the season. They are hoping that their increase in focus and hardwork will manifest itself in the games to come. Though their record is not what they might want, they are still confident they will be able to finish the season on a strong note.
“We all go into each training session with high morale and good spirits to try to improve to where we have to be,” senior goalkeeper Jake Steinberg said, “Everyone on the team is confident that we’ll start winning and make a good playoff run once that time comes around.”
Though the cats lost their first three games, they have been on a roll recently winning three of their last four games. In their past two matches, they beat Einstein 3-0 and Wheaton 2-1. They have some momentum now and are looking to carry this into their upcoming games.
Amongst many other games, the Wildcats will be facing Churchill at home on October 2 and Whitman on October 4, so they will definitely get their chance to prove themselves in the long season to come.
