Sophomore Valeria Komarov is hoping to take her gymnastics to the next level. She has always loved gymnastics and has been training off and on since she was five years old. Komarov hopes to progress her skills and add to a team that lost a very talented group of seniors last year.
Last year Komarov participated in every event: beam, bars, floor and vault, but she prefers some events over others.
“Floor and bars are the two events I am most comfortable with and [generally] best at,” she said. Komarov believes that the bars will be her best opportunity to help the team.
Komarov said that doing cheerleading helps her with discipline and hard work as well as flexibility and tumbling: two aspects that are crucial to success in gymnastics.
“I hope that I will get over my fears of injury on beam and obtain new skills I wasn’t able to get last year,” Komarov said of her goals for this season.
She added that the team would like to work hard and compete even better at meets than they did last year. In order to do this the team must be focused at practice and be supportive so that all members of the team can succeed.
