WJ girls’ tennis is a senior heavy team with seven of 18 members from the the class of 2016. These ladies, along with third year coach Mitchell Duque, have been fairly successful in the past, with a 6-6 record last year, but this year they look forward not only to improving on the court, but also to forming tighter bonds off the court.
The tennis team is led by senior captains, Danielle Moss, Lizzie Ackerman, and Katie Miller. All three leaders agree that a spirited season with more camaraderie will be essential to help this team succeed.
“Tennis is usually more of an individual sport than a team one. This year our goal is to get the girls to play well and have fun together,” senior Katie Miller said.
Her co-captain, Danielle Moss, is looking forward to making positive changes to the team she has been a member of since her freshman year.
“We are really becoming a closer team this year compared to previous years. We bond on and off the courts. We are doing big cat little cat this year which really brings us together as a team. We are also planning team dinners which we have not had in prior years,” Moss said.
Senior captain Lizzie Ackerman has high hopes for her last year on the tennis team.
“We have really grown together as a team in a very short amount of time and hope to win the division together,” Ackerman said.
It appears WJ girls’ tennis has a strong season ahead of them. Keep checking the Pitch Online for more updates.
