The girls tennis team finished its season last week with an impressive win at Poolesville. After the team beat Paint Branch to break free of its 5-5 record, the girls made sure they would pull out one more win.
“I was nervous and I was hoping to play well,” said sophomore Amy Caplon.
The Lady Wildcats came out looking for a win and they got it. Practicing hard for their match, the team won 6-1 with the only loss going into a third set. The team was ecstatic. Winning the match gave them a 7-5 record.
“Overall we had a good season. We had a lot of new players this season and they stepped up really nicely,” said coach Mike Laukaitis.
With the team finishing the regular fall season so well, senior captain Sarah Andrews and junior Sarah Bernstein went into regionals very confidently. They worked hard to come up with successful strategies to pinpoint their opponents’ weaknesses.
The pair fell short in the semifinals, however, finishing in third place.
Although the tennis state tournament in May only takes the top two teams from regionals, the girls put up a good effort.
“We are really proud of making it this far and it has been a really exciting season,” said Bernstein.
