The girls volleyball team beat Sherwood at WJ on Thursday, winning all three out of five sets and extending their overall record to 3-0.
WJ won the first two sets by a narrow margin of 25-23, and the Wildcats quickly shut down the Sherwood Warriors 25-13 in the third and final set.
A highlight of the match was when junior outside hitter Eleanor Janhunen ran almost to the wall to receive a pass, dived and swung with one hand to send the ball back to the middle of the court.
“It was a huge play early in the match and may have defined the rest of the match,” said coach Bill Morris.
The Wildcats had been cruising at 2-0 before this match, having already played and beaten Wheaton and Springbrook . The Warriors provided a good challenge for the Wildcats and proved to be a tough opponent.
“We are still early in the season and will only get better as the girls play together and learn each others’ tendencies,” said Morris. “Hopefully, the girls will continue to learn technique and continue to grow.
