The varsity girls soccer team succumbed to a tough 1-2 loss in overtime against B-CC on Tuesday.
Although the girls couldn’t conquer B-CC’s strong soccer skills, coach Liz Friedman commented that the team didn’t stop playing hard until the final whistle blew.
“[Last night] was a great indicator [of the] fight this group has,” said Friedman.
B-CC put the ball into WJ’s goal twice due to what Friedman referred to as “a little laid-back” defense. Yet, sophomore forward Dani Armstrong managed to tighten the score and lead the game into overtime by scoring WJ’s single goal of the night.
This loss comes after the “Big Train Soccerfest,” held at WJ on Saturday, Sept. 12th, in which the team beat Damascus 3-2 and later Northwest 9-1 to claim the “Big Train” title.
The team looks for a match-up this Thursday against Sherwood, while also hoping to improve their game and consistency throughout the rest of the season.
“We’ve learned what some of our problems are, and we move forward,” said Friedman. “As long as they learn from their mistakes and progress, then we are on the right track.”
