The varsity girls volleyball team dug, set and smashed their way through Wheaton’s defenses on Tuesday, Sept. 8, seizing victory for their first games of the season.
The team decimated their opponents with a 25-3 score for the first set, 25-10 for the second and 25-12 for the third.Adding to the abundance of points, senior captain and outside hitter/setter Anna Elder smacked five service aces while freshman middle blocker Kristen Larrick hit eight kills, and freshman server Stephanie Paul made 20 assists.
“It was a really good game and we played well,” said Elder.
The JV team also won all games, with a scores of 25-8 in their first set and 25-11 in their second set to complete their “best two out of three” set game.
“It was good to get a win, [but] it’s just the beginning [and] we still have a lot of work to do,” said varsity coach Bill Morris.
The players agree, as they also expect to find more fierce competition in their upcoming games.
“It was a really good warm-up for the rest of the season, where the teams are going to get harder,” said senior captain and defense specialist/libero Kathy Pao.
