The varsity field hockey team cruised to a 9-0 victory against Einstein on Saturday, in a game that was all about team effort.
With the stands filled with WJ fans, the Wildcats put on a strong show, preventing Einstein from any shots on goal throughout the game.
In the first half, sophomore midfielder Hannah Flesch, junior forward Rachel Skay and junior forward Alexis Wang each scored a goal.
The team had an explosive second half: Wang scored another goal and senior forwards Georgina Beven and Flor Martinez both scored twice. Junior midfielder Kristen Cotter also scored in the second half.
Both coach Erika Murray and junior co-captain and defender Dana Marks said teamwork was instrumental to the Wildcats’ success.
“We played as a team,” said Marks. “We all played together, it wasn’t just one person trying to do everything and everyone else running around.”
Murray was pleased with the team’s full participation in getting the offense going.
“I’m really happy that I have multiple people that are scoring goals and that it’s just not coming from one or two people,” said Murray.
The field hockey team’s next game is at Damascus on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
“I think if the girls keep playing as well as they did the past two games, then we should have a pretty good outcome,” she said.
