Throughout high school, I have grown not only as a student but as a person, and although I have only spent three years at WJ, I would like to recount those as the most important. Throughout my time here, I have learned a variety of topics ranging from the branches of government all the way to Newton’s second law and creating statistical plots. Most importantly, I have learned about the importance of teamwork throughout my time in The Pitch. WJ has been a place where I have not only learned from my teachers but also from my peers. Joining The Pitch has allowed me to express myself and learn from the experiences I was given and the people I was able to talk to in the process.
When I first walked through the halls of WJ in my sophomore year after moving across the country, I would have never thought that a group of individuals in a journalism class would have this much of an impact on me. I quickly realized that a group of people working together to create something while relying on each other allowed us not only to bond as a team but to learn the importance of relationships and, most of all, being reliable.
Throughout my years here, I have learned about my procrastination, which has been my greatest struggle. In doing so, I pushed back studying for AP exams and even writing this reflection. This has been a huge ongoing flaw of mine, but throughout the year, I have been put through more situations where it was just not possible. This has taught me that procrastination may be my flaw, but it should not impact the performance and success of others at the same time.
I have learned a lot throughout high school, had my ups and downs, good days as well as bad, but I have learned valuable lessons that I will continue to carry with me throughout life. I will miss the good times as well as reminisce on the bad. I would like to thank all the teachers who have been able to help me and teach me some of those valuable lessons I continue to apply to my everyday life and my friends that I have met throughout the years who have made going into this institute just a little better.
Lastly, I would like to thank Mrs. Borrelli, not only has she taught me to be a better journalist and given me the confidence to do what I am passionate about, but through doing so, I believe it has made me a better person. So, thank you, and although I will miss the Pitch but also WJ, I know it’s necessary to take the next step because a closing door always eventually leads to an open one.
