WJ finished 6-4, the best record the team has had since 1998. The team had very significant victories over BCC, Rockville and against Wootton on Homecoming, WJ’s first homecoming victory since 1998. The offense was led by team captain and Quarterback Cole Ahnell who ranked fourth in the county with 1544 passing yards and third in the county with 20 passing touchdowns.
The team finished the season averaging over 26 points per game, but a more impressive stat is the defense’s 22 turnovers forced, an average of over 2 per game. The small, athletic defense was headed by an outstanding linebacking core (the “Boom Squad”) and a secondary led by senior Defensive Backs Sean Montgomery and Zach Hazlett.
Unfortunately, the team had devastating losses to Churchill and Blair which kept them out of serious playoff contention. The team will lose many key seniors, but a very talented wide receiver core will return next year along with many defensive stars, a good sign that WJ may continue in their winning ways.
