The field hockey team grabbed the third seed in the 4A West playoffs, finishing with a 9-3 record. After blowing out the sixth seed, Thomas Johnson, 8-0, WJ went head to head with second seed, regional powerhouse B-CC. The Barons have had WJ’s number in recent years, having beaten the Wildcats in last year’s playoffs and this year’s regular season. WJ battled the Barons to a 2-2 draw into overtime, but a questionable call for flagrant stick interference call gave B-CC a penalty shot, which they put away to end the game.
“The team played a phenomenal game.
It was fantastic field hockey all around,” said coach Erika Murray, “Although WJ did not make it to the finals, I think everyone at the game would agree that [we] outplayed B-CC, and I am very proud of the team.”
Standout player: Marjorie McCurry
Senior goalie McCurry had 41 saves on the season and was the backstop of the stifling WJ defense.
