On Nov. 13 and Dec.11, two food trucks came to WJ. On Nov. 13, WJ Silver and Sons BBQ and Jalapeño Mexican Grill trucks were posted in the athletic circle. On Dec. 11, Trippy Tacos and DM Sliders visited.
Although they only visited twice, it was a big hit as WJ students were notified about this prior to the trucks arriving on campus. The food trucks were an opportunity for students to have access to food other than the cafeteria without having to leave school grounds.
“The food trucks were really good and they provided me with a lot of excitement and joy,” freshman Elias Farfan said.
The food trucks were an opportunity for students to try different foods more conveniently. Their success was shown as the lines wrapped around the building. Continuing to host these food trucks would give students the option to be exposed to a wider variety of foods without having to go far.
Having the food trucks more often would give small businesses the opportunity to sell their food to students which would help their business grow as well. Georgetown Square, Wildwood and Montgomery Mall which students are able to visit for lunch have been able to make a large profit off of WJ students.
This would be beneficial to many as the school is still enforcing the Pay-and-Go system during lunch. On top of this, many don’t have the time to go buy lunch as they have to make it back in time for test corrections or other circumstances. Even if students can purchase snacks at vending machines, the trucks would allow them to purchase actual food.
“The food was so good. It helps kids that don’t have the ability to leave campus for lunch to have access to broader food,” senior Daniel Grossman said.
Regarding the food trucks, the long lines were underestimated and not taken into account which showed it to be more popular than previously thought. The second time they made their way to the campus, long lines formed rapidly as students knew the type of food to expect and in turn, many students were excited to take advantage of this experience once again.
“I think having food trucks at school is a good idea because a lot of people seemed to have enjoyed it last time,” senior Dana Perl said.
As many students consider the presence of the food trucks successful, many more appearances are anticipated in the near future.
