It’s always good when the school gets some improvements, especially regarding the physical aspects of the building. Most students would agree that the school environment plays a role in their academic and general success throughout their time at school.
This past November, WJ installed new lighting in its classrooms and around the building. The lights have been a big issue throughout last year and during this year. It was always either too dark or too bright in classrooms. Student and teacher preferences were not considered in their classrooms. In my science class last year, the lighting situation distracted me from important lessons and lectures in a rigorous course.
But with the beginning of the new school year, lights were recently replaced and can now be regulated. It gave me hope that our school is trying to work on issues that might bother its students. The new lights are a perfect addition to our school because now, classroom lighting can be adjusted, not too simply bright or dark, but to a more moderate extent.
In my chemistry class, for example, the light was just too bright. It became evident that my teacher shared the same opinion as when we got new lights, he told one student to lower the light level slightly to make it darker. I could instantly see the board much clearer and the board’s light reflection did not collide with the reflection from the ones above. It was a much-needed change in my experience.
Of course, each student functions differently in their learning environment, with different preferences. But the problem was that light could not be regulated, so it might have differed from my situation with the light being too bright. It could have been the opposite and too dark for the preferences of students and teachers. The problem of lights not being regulated affected both sides.
Lighting was a big problem, and the fact that it got fixed is a big win for our school.
