AP courses are some of the most advanced classes available to take here at WJ. They are college-level courses, designed for those who want a challenge and a class that will increase their chances of being admitted to top universities. So of the many AP courses offered, which ones are truly the most interesting and beneficial to take?
6. AP Computer Science Principles
Out of all of the more popular AP classes students take here at WJ, AP Computer Science Principles is high on the list as it is a very common class to take for technology credits. However, that’s truly all that there is to it. It’s an important class if you would like to get your technology credits out of the way but other than that, it’s a basic class with little educational value unless you are motivated to pursue a career in computer science.
5. United States Government & Politics
From the variety of AP social studies courses offered, AP Government is definitely one of the more interesting classes. Though it may get quite repetitive at times, the information you learn is truly valuable and allows students to understand how our political system works and evaluate current issues in our society. Unlike AP Computer Science Principles, this course offers information that will be useful in your day-to-day life, making it one of the most interesting and beneficial classes to take.
4. AP Psychology
By far, one of the most fascinating classes offered has to be AP Psychology. This course takes a deep dive into the human brain and explores the biological and social reasons that lead to the actions individuals perform. The class is interactive, with topics that are bound to keep your attention span working as the information is not only interesting but also valuable to keep in mind.
3. AP Language & Composition
For those looking for a course that will lead to improvement when it comes to writing, you will definitely be receiving that boost when taking this class. The course load includes analyzing countless non-fiction texts and writing pages upon pages of commentary on the meaning of what the author intended with their piece. This class is especially beneficial for juniors preparing for their senior year college applications as this allows them to gain that extra bit of knowledge on how to craft the perfect formal essay.
2. AP United States History
Being notoriously known for being the hardest AP history class available, this course definitely lives up to its reputation. From the tremendous amount of content one has to absorb to all the long writing involved in the curriculum, this class can be draining. However, despite the challenges it brings, it’s also designed to truly inform those taking the course about the origins of this country, making it an important class to take. It isn’t a class someone would absolutely have to take, but it is useful to those who love history.
1. AP World History: Modern
Similar to AP United States History, this course follows the same structure when it comes to writing assignments. However, the coursework is much more digestible and interesting. Branching out to the Roman Empire or the Song Dynasty in China allows for a much broader perspective of the world, making it a valuable class to take.
