Many people around the world enjoy plenty of meals daily. Unfortunately, not everyone has this access to food. The WJ Food4All club strives to solve this food insecurity one step at a time.
“Our main goal and objective is connecting the students with the soup kitchens,” club president Nicola Alexiou said.” It’s important because we volunteer and help our community.”
Once a month, usually on Saturdays, Food4All volunteers at Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring. Members prepare desserts and serve food.
The members’ passion to help resolve this issue is mirrored by the club sponsor, English teacher Sarah Gayman. She has experience with food charities, which inspired her to take this role.
“I previously worked at a soup kitchen,” Gayman said. “It taught me a lot of important lessons I wouldn’t have learned without it.”
Food4All strives to have a friendly, open community where people can express themselves through participation in unique opportunities.
“What I enjoy most about this club and clubs in general is that a group of people share the same passions, goals and interests,” junior Sophia Koushan said.
Food4All is becoming a staple in the WJ community. Members can help out with an ongoing worldwide issue, meet others with similar goals and get SSL hours. Meetings are only once a month, so it isn’t a large time commitment.
Food4All is open to new members at any time and is building a stronger community by the day.
