Jemile Safaraliyeva has been president of the class of 2011 for the past three years. She is vice president of the Teens with a Cause Club. As of the next school year, she will be a member of the Rockville Youth Commission, which works with the mayor to discuss the issues and concerns of students and young adults in Montgomery County and more specifically in the Rockville area. She is working on creating a website for her candidacy that will be a forum for students opinions and ideas.
GOALS?
I’ve had lots of experience over the past three years being class president and I feel like this election is the most important because it will give next year’s senior class SGA the ability to really make things happen. I know we say that a lot but it is true. Personally, I’ve been able to see us grow and experience all aspects of the past three years into making next year all that it ought to be. If elected as senior class president, I will put together all my past knowledge and with the flexibility that next year allows I will keep up the spirit of the classes which have come before us. If elected, I plan to hold a massive charity scavenger hunt during the fall, movie nights in the winter, relays, picnics, barebeques in the spring as well as other fundraisers throughout the year.
INTERESTING FACT?
Most of you are probably unaware, but I am from another country. I was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and moved to the United States when I was 6 years old. I also have a pet chinchilla.
YOUR COMPETITION?
The fact that I’m a girl? On a more serious note, not to put down my competition, but I feel that I have a lot more experience. I’ve experienced the highs and lows of the previous years and I feel like as we’ve grown from freshmen, sophomores, juniors and now seniors to be, I’ve grown with experience in the SGA. I’ve gained a love for the student government and the more I’ve been a part of it, I can’t see my year without it.
