Popular bakery and cafe, Tatte, has opened a new location on Rockville Pike, becoming the company’s 16th location. Starting over 16 years ago, pastry chef and founder of Tatte Tzurit Or began selling her baked items at a local farmers market in Boston. We decided to try it out and see if it lived up to the hype we had been hearing about.
Not knowing if we needed to make a reservation or not we were pleasantly surprised to see only a handful of people at the restaurant. As you walk in, the ambiance is inviting with mood lighting and a clean atmosphere. The modern decorations and theme of the restaurant make the environment comfortable.

Tatte is a cafe style where you order and then are given a number to pick your own table. The day that we went, there was a mixed vegetable soup of the day choice among their usual all-day menu served Monday-Thursday. Other menus include a brunch menu served Friday-Sunday and a drink menu served every day of the week. When ordering, we decided to get the Fresh Mozzarella sandwich, mixed vegetable soup, Croque Madame and later on desserts. When the food came, it was nicely plated and looked appetizing. The sandwich had arugula, tomatoes and was served on ciabatta bread. The sandwich was nicely toasted and had good flavors, the soup was steaming hot with cut-up pieces of soft carrots and celery and the croque madame was also steaming hot with thick-cut slices of ham and egg on a croissant.
This restaurant gave us both positive and negative vibes as the environment and food were tasty, but the prices of the food were unreasonable. For just the small cup of soup and croque madame the total came to be around $21. Later, when ordering dessert, the chocolate mousse was around $8.
If someone were to ask us if we would go back, our answer would be no. Although the ambiance and location were nice, the food was only okay and overpriced.
