The stress of preparing for college can be a lot. From worrying about your classes, being far from home while adjusting to a new environment, and making new friends, students have started thinking about how they are going to immerse themselves in the new environment.
Students plan on joining greek life, playing sports, or even joining different clubs, among others.
“I’m planning on being as social as possible. With rushing a fraternity and going into college already being friends with my roommate, I’d say I’m at an advantage for making connections,” senior Dylan Hager said. “But overall, it’s going to come down to how much I put myself out there, and being open to making new relationships at the most unexpected times.”
Greek life can be very impactful; it allows for students to surround themselves in a similar environment and make many new friends. But it can differ from school to school, in the south greek life can take up a major of students social life in college while in more northern schools greek life can be a lot more chill.
Other students have taken the extra step to start meeting new people before college using the class of ‘29 pages. These pages are useful for meeting new people and potentially finding a roommate.Once you have been accepted into universities there are also apps like ZeeMee that allow you to connect to students who are possibly attending that college as well.
“I’ve been DMing girls [on Instagram] on class pages to start to make friends before going to the school so we can rush together and explore campus, etc,” senior Lily Andrews said.
Other students are interested in playing club sports, another great way to meet new people are through sports, and sports club pages.
“I have been looking at club pages on instagram like club tennis for example and looking at sororities as well and learning about all of the clubs over insta that way,” senior Mia Milacevic said.
Students who don’t plan on playing competitive collegiate sports have also found ways to immerse themselves in club sports.
With the abundance of clubs and organizations at schools it allows for students to find a sense of community and match your interests. Even if there isn’t a club that you like, most colleges allow for you and your friends to create your own club, as well as making the most of your dorm life.
Ultimately transitioning into the new atmosphere of college can be a stressful and maybe even scary experience but there seems to be a plethora of new experiences, clubs and ways to meet new people.
