Students who have taken physics at Walter Johnson this year have worked hard to succeed. Their determination is now being rewarded with a trip to Six Flags to celebrate the end of the year and the accomplishments of all physics students.
Students can mingle with other classes at the park while completing an assigned packet. Using what they have learned throughout the year, they must determine the velocity, mass and acceleration of the numerous rollercoasters and amusements. The trip is on Wednesday, June 5, and begins at the end of second period and ends at 6:00 p.m., so students can fully enjoy and experience the magic of the park.
Learning of this news right after spring break excited physics junior Vivian Liebreich in Michael Willard’s class. “We’re going to go on all the rollercoasters,” Liebreich said.
Despite the excitement, some students explained that if they could choose a park to visit, they all agreed that Hershey Park was by far the best.
Willard shared a different opinion. His preferred ride is the infamous Superman Ride of Steel, reaching more than 75 miles per hour. If he had to pick his favorite amusement park, he would choose Cedar Point located in Ohio, for its legacy of having the best roller coasters.
All physics classes are invited, no matter whether a student is in on-level physics or AP physics. The physics teachers hope this ends the year on a fun, high note while providing an educational experience.
“I am really excited to ride the roller coasters. Learning about how they accelerate and function will be very interesting,” junior Dylan Hager said.
