WJ hosted an accurate re-creation of the popular TV game show, with competition among students. Many students had a fun time competing against each other while raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The WJ SGA team including Zack Miller, Siavash Ebrahimi and Sid Espinosa in addition to Evan Candelmo and Xavier Warmerdam won the competition as they dressed up as each other’s daily outfits for their costume. The winner of the costume competition was a team that dressed up as the characters from the popular Pixar movie, Inside Out. Every round, two teams competed to answer questions to get the most popular answers in a survey. While the event wasn’t completely orderly, the students still had a blast.
Sophomore Ethan Lake participated in Family Feud. Although his team lost in the second round, he said he had fun.
“My favorite part of Family Feud was participating with my friends. It was overall a fun experience because I had never tried Family Feud before, and it was really fun,” Lake said.
Senior and Leadership class member Katie Migineishvili helped plan the event and was pleased by the outcome.
“The event as a whole went very well, everyone was very pumped and showed up in very creative and crazy costumes. We even had a bake sale that brought it a lot of donations,” Migineishvili said.
It was Migineishvili’s first year planning an event and her first year planning an event as complex as this. She compares Family Feud to other P4P events.
“We expected Family Feud to be a big event, and decided to make it bigger than last year [by doing] it in the auditorium. We wanted about 24 teams to sign up, but we had 28 at the end.” Migineishvili said.
Leadership teacher Rainer Kulenkampff oversaw Family Feud. He believes the event went well.
“[Family Feud] was both a great fundraiser and the students had a blast,” Kulenkampff said.
A few changes were made to Family Feud, compared to last year; the event was changed to be held in the auditorium and the number of teams competing increased.
“The new venue in the auditorium helped keep everyone engaged, and this year was more true to the rules than any Family Feud in the past,” Kulenkampff said.
The Leadership class was hoping to raise around $800 from this event and achieved their goal of raising $800. On the other hand, they are always hoping more people will attend school events.
Lake and three of his friends dressed as skiers for their costume. Lake describes the feelings that he and his team felt when they won and when they lost.
“We won the first round and it felt pretty good because we weren’t expecting to win. We lost in the second round and it was disappointing but it was fun to experience the whole event,” Lake said.
There were a few unexpected circumstances in Family Feud this year. For example, some teams did not show up, making it hard for the organizers to follow the bracket.
“Some things to make sure to improve for next year is the organization as a whole. The event was a lot bigger this year and we could have run through the slideshow beforehand to make sure everything flowed well,” Migineishvili said.
Family Feud has not been a long lasting tradition at WJ, but based on the wonderful feedback from the participants, the leadership class believes that Family Feud will become a student favorite event for P4P.
