Not Your Average Joe’s is a new restaurant that opened in local Georgetown Square this summer. From the outside, the restaurant looks like a stylish coffee shop with huge rent space, done up with white walls, outdoor furniture, potted plants and hanging lights on the exterior. You might expect good coffee along with some pastries. However, the inside is a far call from these expectations.
The interior is filled with dark wood tables and cushy booths, all arranged around a brightly lit bar with a variety of drinks and a flat screen television. When going past the bathroom, patrons get a view of a wall covered entirely by shelves of potted plants.
When patrons enter the restaurant, they have to wait to be seated by the hostess. They may see a football game on the big screen, and some slightly rowdy fans sitting at the bar, watching intently and cheering or objecting occasionally. There is not a pastry display case in sight.
The menu offers coffee, however, along with a large selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. There is an entire subsection dedicated to seafood, and there is a separate drinks menu for customers over the age of 21.
The edamame and meat dumplings prove to be quite good and come in large portions. The cappuccino has a very rich flavor, especially for a place that does not, in fact, specialize in coffee (counter to expectations). The meal was relatively expensive, however, totaling $22.44.
Overall, the restaurant lives up to its name, proving to be more than average with its food.
