Sophomore Isa Herold currently stands as the only female class president at WJ. Herold initially wanted to run for president to add an interesting activity to her resume.
Part of her duties includes working with the other sophomore class officers to inform their classmates of recent activities. She also coordinates with WJ’s entire student government association on events such as meetings with Montgomery County Regional Student Association (MCR) where county-wide issues are discussed.
“I really like working with my fellow officers to organize stuff like the homecoming hallway and fundraisers,” she said.
Herold and the other class officers meet a few times a month to talk about fundraisers and help get their classmates more involved. However, one of the main difficulties they face is organization.
“In our latest attempt to organize a dine-out at Ledo’s Pizza, our class sponsor forgot to sign us up and we missed the deadline,” she said.
In lieu of the upcoming class elections, Herold cautions that student government may not be for everyone. She said that interested candidates should make sure they will have enough time and effort for their position, especially as senior year draws closer.
“A lot of people think they can just win and then do nothing the rest of the year because they want something to put on a transcript,” she said. “It actually takes a lot of time up, especially around homecoming.”
As a rising junior, Herold does not plan on running for a class officer position next year because of her busy schedule with her soccer teams and classes. She is still very optimistic for the future as many of her classmates share her school spirit, especially for their grade level.
