With the air getting colder and layers coming back to the four front of closets, fall is nearing. Fall brings perfect weather that allows for long-sleeved shirts and jeans without the need for a heavy jacket. It provides a short period of time for people to showcase their individual style because their outfit isn’t covered by a winter jacket. Throughout the years, styles and trends have come and gone, but many have stayed consistent.
was the year Tumblr was big which brought fall fashion trends that many see as the “staples” for fall. Plaid, pinstripes and animal print became popular. Along with that, high-knee boots and wide-brim hats were found all over social media.
brought the popularity of flared pants and skinny jeans. This trend came back recently, as flared leggings. Burnt orange, mossy green and brown were the main colors of all clothing. These colors were seen in turtlenecks, chunky sweaters and oversized scarves. Furry boots were put along with the chunky sweaters and flared pants. “When I was in college, I wore leggings, ugg boots and an American Apparel zip-up sweatshirt and had them in almost every color. But that was a go-to outfit for class,” teacher Amanda Ashinsky said.
fall was surrounded by the colors red, chocolate brown and 70s plaid. Turtlenecks turned to Victorian collars, which are both very similar. Jackets with broad shoulders and statement fur were frequently seen on the runway during this time. The wide-brim hats continued as well as more unique hats.
showcased society’s obsession with snake print. This print was seen everywhere, ranging from skirts and dresses to accessories. Keeping the animal theme, tortoise jewelry was highly loved. In addition to that, wrap dresses and oval glasses were commonly seen on social media. This year also started the “statement sneaker” which made the shoe the main focus of the outfit. Whether it was a chunky sneaker or ones with bright colors, it captured the attention of the people around them.
saw a rise in big puffer jackets. They added to outfits when the weather was too cold to not wear a jacket. Having a fun jacket gave people more expression in their outfits, instead of having it fully covered by a heavy jacket. People continued to love the saturated colors and knitted pieces. Whereas in other years people wore more classy clothing pieces, people in 2019 focused on being cozy. Many big sweaters, leggings and Ugg boots helped to achieve the cozy atmosphere. “I like to wear low-waisted baggy jeans or flared leggings,” freshman Kristen Chace said.
-2024 presents the love for longer pants, specifically cargos and flared leggings. Those would be paired with either ballet flats, cowboy boots or Ugg minis. Similar to 2019, statement earrings are popular, including the tortoise print. When outfits are more dressed up, maxi dresses and maxi skirts are seen all over.
