Every so often arrives a TV series that shatters screen records. We are currently witnessing one of those rare, prolific shows with the HBO Max series, The Last of Us. The show is joining the company of iconic shows such as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and The Big Bang Theory.
The show is based on the popular video game of the same name, originally released in 2013. The show debuted on Jan. 15 and will release one episode per week until the ninth and final episode. The first three episodes follow the treacherous journey of a blue-collar worker, Joel, and a young girl, Ellie, in a world filled with vile, zombified humans. Joel and Ellie seek to find and unite with a group known as “FireFlies,” which looks to subvert the controversial American military.
The show stars Pedro Casal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie). Stars such as Nick Offerman (Bill) from Parks and Rec, Gabriel Luna (Tommy), and Anna Torv (Tess) are featured as well.
IMDb has already voted The Last of Us as the #1 TV series of all time and gave it 9.5 stars. With those stats, The Last of Us has already passed Breaking Bad with the highest-rated episodes in television history.
The high ratings are well-deserved, as the show has a great cast and gravitating plot. Casal and Ramsey’s outstanding performances bring depth and sentiment.
The series lures you into Joel and Ellie’s strong, developed relationship as they survive a harsh and dangerous apocalypse infected with cannibals. The dark lighting, high angles, and long shots emphasize the drama and gore of each scene.
Overall, The Last of Us is a must-see show for anyone who loves zombies, shootouts, and heroic journeys. Its action-packed scenes, emotional plot, fantastic cast and stunning visuals make it an entertaining and enjoyable show.
