For many, 2016 was a miserable year. With the terror attacks, Zika virus, police shootings, the crazy election, many celebrity deaths and more. Two thousand sixteen has to go in the record books for one of the most deranged and absurd years. It’s difficult to believe another year has come and gone. In 2012 they said the world was going to end, but we’re all still here and it’s 2017. People are very excited to see what 2017 has in store, and are interested to see how Trump handles his new role as President. It’s also fun to see what the new trends of 2017 are going to be and how they’ll differ from 2016’s trends.
Every year The Washington Post comes out with a “in and out list”which predicts what is going to be in or out in 2017. Some of the predictions that the Washington Post lists are that working out at Soul Cycle will be out, and that Orangetheory will be in. Most of the new activities, products, sayings or people no one has really heard of yet which is what makes looking at these in and out lists even more interesting. In 2016, the famous show “Pretty Little Liars” was very in. According to The Washington Posts famous list of in and out predictions, “Big Little Liars” is going to be in for 2017. Also, stress coloring was very in and pretty popular. These are just some predictions made by the inventors of the various products, apps and websites. For all we know these predictions could be very off, or they could be right on point. We’re just going to have to be patient and see what ends up happening. It’s going to be a good time waiting to see what ends up staying the same, or what changes. Also, if the various changes listed above are accurate or not.
“I find the in and out lists to be a fun thing to look at with friends when you’re bored, but it’s not all that fun to look at because around the time that the lists come out I don’t know what any of the trends or products are that’s on the lists for 2017 because they’re all brand new,” said senior Olivia Deen.
Some other trends that are “out” for 2017 are “strictly” antique furniture because designers say it’s more aesthetically intriguing to create a look that cohesively mixes of elements from the past and the future. Along with the antique furniture, oversized furniture has also been deemed “out.”oversized furniture not only serves to overwhelm, but has become an inefficient use of space. Designers are going to now be advertising furniture that’s scaled to the space or custom designed to appropriately fit.
Now that we know some of the new trends of 2017, we should all feel a little bit more ready for what the year has to bring.
“It’s actually tradition for my mom and I to look at The Washington Posts in and out list every year. My mom and I are the kinds of people who like being up to date with all of the latest trends,” said junior Sophie Schulman
When all of the trends and products slowly start to come out we won’t even realize that they’re replacing all the old trends and products of 2016 it’ll all just happen so gradually and smoothly. Then before we know it, it’s going to be 2018 and the 2018 will show the outs of 2017 and in’s of 2018. It’s crazy how fast a year can go buy, and how what was in just a year ago is now very much out.
