This past week, singer Justin Bieber and the band One Direction each released a new album. Some think this has created some competition for the top spot on the popularity charts, and controversy over who is the more popular artist. Sophomores Ashley Smith, Amanda Krupinski and Ally Leonardo are fans of both Bieber and One Direction and expressed their opinions on the controversy.
Leonardo said her favorite artist is Justin Bieber.
“I like him because he has unique songs that all are different and they are very catchy. I also think his voice contributes to why he is so good,” Leonardo said.
Leonardo enjoys many of his songs, one of her favorites being, “Love Yourself”, which appears on the new album.
Krupinski enjoys both artists equally.
“I like both artists because I think they have similar styles but both put different twists on their music,” Krupinski said.
Krupinski said her favorite One Direction song is “End of the Day” and favorite Justin Bieber song is “What Do You Mean.”
Smith is a fan of One Direction and their songs and was excited to hear their new albums.
“I was very excited when the album came out, and I downloaded it right away. My favorite song is ‘History,'”Smith said.
The artists’ music is not the sole reason why the students like or dislike them. The singer’s character also plays a large role in their opinions.
“I really like Justin Bieber’s music, but I’m not much of a fan of him personally. One Direction is always brings something new to the table and is always creative with the albums which I love,” Krupinski said.
Leonardo does not let Bieber’s actions influence her preference for his music.
“[Justin Bieber] does immature things in life like getting arrested and yelling at paparazzi but he’s young and growing and makes good music,” Leonardo said.
With the constant creations of new albums and the variety popular artists, it is hard to compare different artists and their styles . The song’s styles are all different which make the songs unique.
